A couple recent buys: a set of @daddarioandco lock A couple recent buys: a set of @daddarioandco locking auto trim tuners, and a @g_gotoh510 GE1996T trem bridge. I wanted to raise my Ibanez’s trem game, and I’d read that the Gotoh was a drop-in replacement, so I figured I’d give it a whirl. Turns out the rumors are true: I just popped out the old bridge and reattached the springs to the new one. No need to change the studs. I didn’t even change the trem claw. Couldn’t have been easier. I spent less than 20 minutes replacing the bridge and tuners, plus all six strings, and this is literally only the second time I’ve changed strings on this guitar. The Gotoh is a big improvement over stock. It sustains better, sounds better, and returns to pitch better. There are a bunch of little details I’ve noticed, too. The fine tuners feel better, and the trem arm stays perfectly tight, which definitely can’t be said for the stock Ibanez arm. 10/10 would recommend to anybody who wants to level up their RG. Locking tuners on a trem bridge seems redundant, but I regret nothing. On the stock tuners, the strings would keep slipping, and even with the locking nut engaged, it would mess up the guitar’s tuning. I can tolerate that on a non-floated trem, but on this one, I’m covering my bases. Anyway, the auto trim is like magic. They’re not exactly a drop in replacement but I’m not so precious about this guitar that I won’t put a couple extra screw holes in. Anyway thanks for reading 🙇‍♂️ #guitar #ギター
A couple of recent purchases. The triangle picks a A couple of recent purchases. The triangle picks are a completely new thing for me. I favoured those tiny Jazz picks for a long time, ever since I saw John Petrucci using them - but, look, I’m no Petrucci, and as I’ve gotten older they’ve gotten less and less comfortable to play. These @jimdunlopusa picks are like the elastic waistband of guitar picks: kind of dorky, but ~~~ super comfortable ~~~ looking forward to seeing where these take me. The book has been on my radar for a long time, and in fact I have it on Kindle already, but there’s nothing better a dead tree. My interest in it was stoked by @tomojustfunky’s video about it - I mean, it’s how the Berklee people learn guitar, right? Hoping a little bit of that musicianship rubs off on me.
